SEAT Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Inc. (SEAT IEC) is a U.S. Virgin Islands 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which empowers entrepreneurs within the territory, as they are one of the primary vehicles through which a community’s economy can grow.
The mission of SEAT IEC is to support, empower, advise and train individuals who have traditionally been underrepresented in the small business arena.
Small Business Development & Technical Assistance
SEAT IEC helps entrepreneurs and small business owners learn the essential principles of successful business management. The primary goal of the Small Business Development & Technical Assistance program is to aid budding entrepreneurs, and business owners with establishing and growing successful businesses so that they can in turn provide employment opportunities to residents in their communities.
Youth Entrepreneurship and STEM Training/Initiatives
SEAT IEC offers a variety of initiatives that supplement students’ entrepreneurship related classroom activities. THE STEAM Incubator is SEAT IEC’s initiatives for the youth of the Virgin Islands. The STEAM Incubator seeks to transform the lives of students by preparing them for the jobs of the future. We aim to develop a generation of leaders who are passionate about Science Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), and who desire to be innovative and entrepreneurial.
Innovating, Preparing, and Training
Workforce Development
SEAT IEC assists the community by providing access to workforce training. The Virgin Islands are reliant on tourism. Training in soft skills such as customer service (whether in person, phone or email) are essential to managing customer relationships and integral to the maintenance of tourism and other industries. Other types of training such as understanding the basics of software programs such as Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); leadership training; employee management and disaster planning/resiliency training are also provided.
Financial Literacy Training
SEAT IEC provides individuals in the community with training on efficient and effective ways to manage their finances. Budget planning, building, understanding and maintaining good credit, and learning effective ways to save are just some of the essential skills that are imparted. We equip individuals with the financial tools that will help them to break out of the cycle of poverty. Financial literacy is integral to starting and maintaining a successful business.
